EV & Hybrid Diagnostics – Ashby

Castle Garage EV carries out diagnostic testing for electric and hybrid vehicles at our workshop in Ashby. We use PicoScope diagnostic equipment and are approved by HEVRA (the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Repair Alliance), so our diagnostic checks are carried out to a properly qualified standard.

A warning light’s come on. Can I still drive my EV or hybrid?

It depends on the light, and on your car. Some warnings mean it’s fine to carry on to your nearest safe stop, others mean you shouldn’t drive at all. If you’re not sure, it’s always safer to get it checked before you set off rather than risk further damage, or your safety, on the road.

Why is EV diagnostics different from a normal car?

Electric and hybrid vehicles don’t have spark plugs, fuel injectors, or an exhaust system, so there’s nothing to check there. Instead, our diagnostic tests focus on the high-voltage systems, the electronic controls, and the battery itself, checking its performance, its condition over time, and how efficiently it charges.

What causes warning lights and faults on an EV or hybrid?

Many faults come down to software issues, sensor failures, or communication errors between the vehicle’s onboard systems, rather than a mechanical problem you could spot by eye. That’s why proper diagnostic equipment matters more on an EV or hybrid than it does on a petrol or diesel car, guesswork simply doesn’t work on systems this complex.

How does diagnostic testing at Castle Garage EV work?

We connect manufacturer-approved diagnostic tools to scan your vehicle’s systems and identify exactly what’s triggering a fault or warning light. Our technicians are trained specifically on high-voltage systems and electrical components, so once we’ve found the issue, we’ll explain what it is and what it means before agreeing any repair work with you.

Castle Garage EV is proud to be part of the HEVRA (Hybrid and Electric Repair Alliance) network of quality independent garages who have demonstrated that they have the correct tools, equipment and qualifications to work on electric and hybrid vehicles. Our technicians are IMI-trained and are experienced in all aspects of EV and hybrid repair and maintenance.
